I am from India . I have an offer from Polytech Tours for Masters in Mechanical Engineering .
 
Please soem one telll me is it a good college.

Sry I have to go, but polytech Tours is clearly not among the best engineering schools in France.

I am basically from Mumbai ( India) ...
 
The french govt came up with this scheme called n+i program.
 
I applied in it ..and  only one offer came up.
 
So is it really wrth coming all the way fromINdia to Tours..

It will allow you to to learn some french. So it can worst it, but clearly when you'll come back to india,  this school won't be an andvantage like  a top university (harvard or mit for example) on your CV. It will be just an experience. But I think that nobody will ever now this school out of france.

The french co-ordinator in   India  TOLD ME THAT the Polytech Group is a good group and students who pass out from there usually get absorbed in good companies.
 
I know youhave , Ecole Polytechnique, INSA , EPF , ESTP etc...which are considered good colleges.

After engineering school in france you always get a good job as even  average college are well considered regarding to other kind of study.For example there is nothing in comon with Ecole Polytechnique or even estp or insa. Its depend where you want to work, if you want to stay in france abviously you would be able to find a relatively good job in engineering especially as this field (production/mechanic) is missing some engineer . But I think that if you plan to come back after in India maybe it is not very usefull.

Having an international experience is a very big plus ...
I believe that others agree with that ...
 
However, it can't be worst and I think it has good programs which are better than most of the universities in France ...

no ... but from my point of view, internqtionql experience is always very good to take and can help to access hight responsabilities quicker ...
 
I believe that it is not a bad scholl everybody avoid, it is a good one ... maybe not one of the best but good

Polytech Tours is not in the top50 of engeeniring schools in France. Clearly, its notoriety is weak and the opportunities of job after it will be limited (I don't say you won't find a job, I say you won't be able to make every thing you want).

 
I agree. The point is, as I said all engineering school in france are more or less good one and the gouvernment recognizes this one so it is a garanty that you diploma would have a value. However my idea is that this school by itself won't represent a "plus" in your backgroud regarding to other school.  
It would be seen as what it is, a year in a french engineering school and not a year in the famous "polytech tour school" as could be a year in Ecole polytechnique or Ecole centrale.

Come on guys ! He/She won't learn anything there...
 
If it was in Paris or in a big city, I would understand, but discovering France by begining in Tours is really not awesome.

For example, he/she would know that living in Tours without a car will be like hell...

Yep. But it is an experience on the CV. It is better than nothing if he wants some international experience. And I don't really agree. However It is an average school in france, everybody after it find a job. They learn something, they don't procastinate. He will learn something, not a top program, but he will learn something.

I am ok that it is better than nothing (a bit better) because of international experience...
 
but if he can get something different, even going to the normal university in any important city in France, it would be better for him/her...

Have you lived here? I lived in small city (lorient) you can get throught it, you always find a friend with a car for going out at night and there is buses in the day. It is not hell, it is not the desert

Clearly,but maybe he/she doesn't have the oppurtunity. And I think it will be easier for him to meet people in a school than in  university

Well, I know pretty well the city because my parents live around there...
 
He will manage to survive without a car, but he will really have difficulties dealing with every thing a bit unormal he will want to do.
Try to convince a tourangeau (the name for the inhabitants of Tours) to bring you to les Chateaux de la Loire...

Maybe he could find a cute french girlfriend with a car... (or a boyfirend if it is a girl..and that would be easier..)
But I agree if you have the possibility to go to a french big town in a simple university it would probably be better. The town is obvisouly not the funiest place in france...(in fact I don't even know where exactly is Tour...)

I have already visited Tours ... you must be the type of guy who doesn't know how to buy a bus ticket!

One of my best friends graduated from Polytech Tours.
He found a job (in IT) quite easily if that is the main question.
 
It's not one of the top French Engineering school, but if your goal is to spend a couple of years in France and even to stay working here after graduation, it's not a bad choice.
 
I don't know how your University rank among Indian Universities; of course if you are in a top Indian School you should perhaps think twice about it, but otherwise it will be a great experience to live even if some people will tell you that Tours isn't Paris.

Another friend lives and works in Tours since two month. He hasn't bought a car yet, and it doesn't seem he will before a long time!
So I don't think it's like hell to live in Tours without a car.
