hi,
i cannot understand why i cannot play BW on my laptop anymore, as i played for years. My father uninstalled it, i install again after a while and there is a problem.
 
Symptoms :  Hangs on the first "loading" screen. It loads in fact cause if i swich tasks with ALT+TAB i can pass the first screen. Anyway the game is very slow.
 
Suspected system changes:  
- DX8.1 was installed on DX7.1
- Video driver upgraded
 
Try outs to recover :
- installed starcraft without brood -> same problem
- i uninstalled the new video driver -> nothing changed but the game is at normal speed after the first screen, but during games still slow
- checked the hard drive for errors
- upgraded Win2k basic to SP2
=>no results
 
System configuration:  
-Win2k (SP2 now), without virus
-Laptop with P3 500, 300MB RAM
-Video card: ATI RAGE LT PRO (only 2 drivers are available)
 
I have no more ideas but one difficult to apply: switching back to DX7.1
Any suggestions ? Please help cause i cannot play BW on my main computer anymore cause it s used by someone else now...

Did you upgrade your video card drivers before or after DirectX ?
 
Did you try with DirectX 9 ?
