The problem with naming your rally game after a particular type of terrain is that it can end up being a little restrictive.
The first two DiRT games were very much focused on the brown, mucky stuff, arguably to the detriment of other plucky rally surfaces. But no more: finally the series has become equal opportunities and, as a result, there's going to be much more variety in the ground you're speedily chewing through this time around.
The biggest addition is snow, lost since the last of the pre-DiRT McRae games, but back with an icy vengeance this time around. In spite of studded tyres, which offer more grip than you'd expect in this slippy-slidy ice world, the sub-zero stages are likely to be DiRT 3's most challenging proposition.
As if the actual stage itself wasn't tough enough, stray off the course and you'll hit deformable snowdrifts that will cause drag on any tyres that get dipped and further slow your progress.
And once you're just about comfortable with careening down the side of a mountain like a bobsled that's decapitated its driver, DiRT 3 will ask you to do the same thing. But at night. And during a blizzard. Your vision will be limited depending on how many extra headlights you've stuck to the bonnet and corners will appear all the more quickly. Similarly, you'll be scrambling through rainstorms, which use and improve on already impressive technology borrowed from the Formula
One 2010 development team. Handling on waterlogged gravel will be completely different from the dry stuff. The idea is that, even though DiRT 3 will have three times as many rally stages as DiRT 2, mixing up the time of day and the weather conditions will keep things fresh when you inevitably have to return to a location during the career.
DIRTY DEALS
The other thing bound to add to the variety on offer is the huge selection of rally vehicles, spanning decades of driving far too fast along narrow forest tracks. Every major era of rallying is represented, with our favourites being the Group B monsters like the Audi Quattro S1, Metro 6R4 and Ford RS200, which were justifiably banned because the drivers kept flying off the road at ludicrous speeds and coming back in hundreds of tiny, lightly charred pieces.
Fortunately, with the aid of flashback, those consequences are removed, so you're free to misbehave. Because the garage is more fleshed out this time around, when you head into an event in a car from a particular era, you'll be competing against other cars from that time period, rather than just a random jumble - and rightly so. The stages are a more classic rally selection this time. Iconic locations such as Monte Carlo, Finland and Kenya are present and correct and the only place that doesn't seem to have made the cut is Wales. Of the lot, Monte is the most tantalising: a mix of tarmac, ice and snow as you try and avoid tumbling down a mountainside.
EXTREME FILTH
The extreme sports stuff hasn't been binned, though, and you'll find official X-Games courses from Los Angeles and Aspen, plus all the cars that the current crop of US drivers tool around in.
We had a chance to get some time behind the wheel with an early version of the game to try out the new handling model. There was an immediate feeling of greater weight to the car, making its behaviour more predictable when pitching it into slides, but they remain just as snappy and responsive as you'd expect highly tuned (and highly expensive) rally machines to be.
Codies reckons this is going to be their biggest racing game yet, and the associated stats are already suitably impressive: there are over 100 routes, compared to DiRT 2, and apparently the game will have the biggest selection of cars of any of the previous games, McRae versions included. The US-centric gearshift that the series initiated with DiRT and solidified with DiRT 2 divided fans and the third game is a conscious attempt to bring the new and traditional audiences together.
After all, they're both fundamentally fans of the same thing: cars travelling extremely quickly, usually sideways, through highly treacherous off-road courses. Could this be the racing game that finally pleases everyone, all of the time? We reckon it stands a pretty good chance.
-Retour au rallye
-3 fois plus de routes
-Retour de la neige qui avait été abandonnée avec l'arrivée sur next-gen
-50 véhicules
-route déformable (surement du au rachat du studio du dernier sega rally)
infos ici http://community.codemasters.com/f [...] o-far.html
Stages
-We have some reversals and some overlap between rally stages. We avoid reusing
the same bit of road as much as possible.
-Our rally stages will be full of thrills and spills including some big crests and jumps.
-We have 8 Stages per rally location and these will have a good variety of speed, technical sections and jaw dropping scenery.
-We take 32,000 research photos of each location in the game to allow us to
recreate the environments as closely as possible.
-We have a web of routes in each location, some sections of these webs are reused
but we try and keep this to a minimum.
-Rally events will make up approximately 60% of the career mode.
This is reflected in the number of tracks for each discipline.
-We have Finland, Norway, Kenya and Michigan as our Rally Locations.
Finland & Michigan will have rain.Norway will have snow and Kenya will be dry.
They will all have night stages.
-Finland & Michigan will have dry weather too.Norway will not be snowing sometimes but will always have snow on the ground.
-Every rally stage will have night and day variations and a selection of weather
and lighting appropriate to the location.
-We are looking into other classic rallies for D3.Kenya and Finland & Norway are
classic rally stages though.
-Our stages will be a variety of lengths. Some will be sprint stages while others
will be longer tests.
-We won't have the Pikes Peak track in DiRT3 but we have a great selection of vehicles that have raced up Pikes Peak.
-There will be some tarmac sections on Michigan & Finland.
-Our rally stages will have some narrow technical sections as well as the fast
flowing high speed sections.
-Trailblazer will go uphill and downhill.
-For our rally stages we have some tricky tight hairpins that you really have
to slow down for.
-Rally Stages are around 5-6km.Trailblazer stages are around 8-9km.
Our circuits are shorter loops with 1minute laps.
-We have some long stages in DiRT3 but there won't be anything on the scale of Fuel. We're keeping things fast and intense.
-We have some sprint stages that are around 2 minutes and longer stages that are up to 4 minutes long.
-We have some more technical stages but we have not shown them yet as we are still working on bringing them up to spec.
-The Lake Superior tracks are set during autumn. You'll see rain and autumnal leaves there.
-Because we have the deformable snow banks we have been able to tighten up the stages to give that intense Norway feel.
-Only Norway and Aspen will have snow. They are the only environments that are set up for it.
-Average times will be less than 4 minutes across all the stages in the game. Should be 2.30+ though.
-Swap Monte Carlo for Monaco Harbour and add Smelter, an abandoned copper smelting plant in Michigan and you have the locations.
-The gymkhana arenas vary in size between locations and within locations.
-The Trailblazer routes do have awesome hairpins but they are longer sweeping bends unlike the rally stages which have tighter ones.
-Finland will have rainy gravel stages for Rally and Michigan Smelter will have Gravel / Muddy Rallycross stages.
-We have snow and ice rallycross races at Aspen.
-The hairpins are varied throughout DiRT3. Norway and Michigan have some pretty tight hairpin bends.
Cars/Liveries/Drivers
-We have a decent selection of Rear Wheel Drive classic cars from the 60s , 70s & 80s.
-We have modern & classic Hillclimb cars and the awesome Group B cars in DiRT 3.
We have Rally cars from the 1965 through to 2011.
-All cars on our night stages will be fitted with light rigs/bars to help with visibility.
-Most of our cars have 5 liveries. One original and 4 fictional team versions.
There are some special unlocks too.
-We have some livery designs that have carried over from DiRT2 but generally we've got a more professional style In DiRT3.
-The C4 will have Sebs Loeb's & Seb Ogier's liveries on it.There will be no fictional liveries on the WRC cars.
-You will also have Mikko Hirvonen's BP Abu Dhabi Ford WRT livery on the 2010 Ford Focus WRC In DiRT3.
-The Citroen C4 will be in the game but we haven't been able to secure Kimi's livery.
-We have between 2-5 vehicles in each car class. For example S2000 has 2 cars
and RallyX has 5.
-Liam Doran is representing European Rallycross.
-Raid vehicles will feature as part of Rally events.
-The 2010 and 2011 WRC cars will have their official liveries in DiRT3
-We are hoping to have four WRC cars in DiRT3.A couple from 2010
and a couple from this year.
-We have a couple of classic Front Wheel Drive cars and loads of Rear Wheel Drive cars from the classic & modern eras.
-The Subaru 555 is based on the car that Colin won his World Championship in.
-We plan to have the Fiesta WRC and the Mini Countryman WRC as the two WRC
cars in DiRT3.
-The Fiesta will have the Abu Dhabi Ford, and Ken's @MWRT liveries. The Mini will hopefully have Kris Meeke's Prodrive livery.
-We plan to have the Peugeot 207 and the Fiat Grande Punto Abarth
as our S2000 Rally Cars.
-We won't be including the Dallenbach in DiRT3.We have some great Trailblazer
vehicles lined up though.
-We will have some smaller cars in DiRT3 like the Classic Mini Cooper
but we don't have any JWRC style cars this time out.
-We are planning to have the McRae Vision Charity livery and possibly the Gymkhana Grid livery. There will be 4 fictional teams too.
-We have some pretty crazy Hillclimb cars in the Trailblazer class.
-We are trying to get the SRTUSA liveries In DiRT3.
-At the moment we have Ken Block, Tanner Foust, Kris Meeke and Liam Doran in DiRT3.
-On the licensed liveries the co-driver's name will be represented on the livery
where appropriate.
-We have some pretty cool alternative for the Subaru N12. The N13 Gymkhana car is the Crawford Performance Impreza. It is actually the Orange and Black/Grey version of the Crawford Performance Impreza that we have in the game.
-We will not have a livery editor in D3.
-We don't have any vehicle grades in DiRT3. So all vehicle classes are at their maximum potential.
-With Travis moving to NASCAR he will not be in DiRT3.
-We have some great Group B cars line up for DiRT3.I can't say
which ones though just yet.
-We also have the Rally America Fiesta Ken used last year & the Pikes Peak Fiesta that Marcus Grönholm used in 2009.
-We will only have Hirvonen's and Block's liveries on the 2011 Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

-We have stadium trucks & stadium buggies that will race at our Landrush events.
-We have the Raid T1 style vehicles in the game.

-The Audi Quattro Pikes Peak is in the Classic Trailblazer Class and the Monster Suzuki SX4 is in the Modern Trailblazer class.
Physics
-We have different tyre types available which will affect how the cars handle on
different surfaces.
-Our cars have Tarmac,Gravel and Snow specifications and you can tweak
the set-up to suit your driving style.
-We will use the improved Ego Racing engine for all disciplines. There will be a
selection of assists that novice drivers can turn on.
-We have further improved our physics engine in DiRT3.Weight shift plays a more
important role in setting the car up for a corner.
-We have improved all our surface physics to accurately represent wet conditions.
Snow will require a new driving style to perfect.
-We have improved our damage model to more accurately simulate damage.
There will be mechanical & visual damage options. We are definitely looking
into having flat tyres.
-We're not doing the tyre choice now as the stages very clearly bias a specific
tyre type. Other setup options are the same as DiRT2.
-With all the assists turned off, the handling will be slightly more challenging in
DiRT3 than It was in DiRT2.
-We have ABS, traction control & a visual racing line. We also have a breaking
assist and a throttle assist to really help newcomers.Yeh, the visual line will change dynamically based on your speed.
-Our physics have been improved to more accurately represent weight shift and
the way the suspension reacts to different surfaces.
-We are going to do a full pass on the way that objects interact with the vehicles.
-We have increased the amount that mechanical damage affects performance. Damaging the turbo and exhaust will affect the engine.
-We now have a system that allows the player to get punctures. If you drive
on the tyre will eventually shred off the rim.
-You can either continue to drive on your rims and lose time or restart the stage.
-The assists will be available when playing online in all but our new Hardcore Mode.
-We are modelling studded snow tyres. The in game friction levels will represent that.
-To clarify the rating on @insidesimracing interview. 5-6 was on a pad with ABS. I'd give 7 or even 8 on a PC & wheel setup. Maybe even a 9 if you use the
H gate shift option & clutch to drive a group b car on a Norway stage in the dark.
-The steering lock changes between cars but we won't open up the steering degrees from 270 to 900 depending on each car, sorry.
-I think if you set the wheel to 900 in windows and then tweak the settings in the game then that will work, but for all cars.
-With a good wheel setup on some of our tighter stages our physics feel very realistic. If you liked RBR then you'll enjoy D3.
-Downforce will still be adjustable in DiRT3. It will have more of an effect on the Trailblazer cars as they have bigger wings.
-(regarding physics parameters) Yeh, we have added a bunch of settings to the suspension to allow us to more accurately model how the car behaves in DiRT3.
-Tarmac will have big rims & wide tyres. Gravel will be medium with heavy treads and Snow will be narrow with studs / spikes.
-You won't be able to pop tyres in gymkhana as it is visual damage only. You can in all race modes though.
-Damage to bodywork will affect downforce and therefore grip.
-You can tweak: Gear Ratio, Downforce, Suspension, Ride Height, Differential and Brake Bias to suit your driving style.
-Your tyres will react to the road surface and flex according to the load that is applied to them.
-Tyre blowouts occur after you have taken wheel/tyre damage and you get a puncture. Continue to drive and the tyre shreds off the rim.
-Damage in Hardcore will be the same as having damage turned on in the Single Player. You'll be able to terminal damage in Hardcore.
Sounds
-Our Audio Engineers went to Kemble Airport yesterday to record engine and
exhaust audio.
-Our Audio Engineers & Designers are hard at work taking the sound recordings
and putting them onto the cars in the game.
-Our audio engineers made a special effort to record the effect of gravel & mud hitting the underside of the car. They went out with Rally and Rallycross drivers and recorded the sound effects from inside the car as it was driven at speed.
-Yes, the turbos chatter and we get some nice popping from the overrun. We also have a cool wobble on the revs.
-(confirmed by madfiddler)-We recorded a rather special MK2 just for this game, yes. Induction roar aplenty.
- I think you can turn the voices off in the Audio settings but the co driver is there to help you in rally stages.
Soundtrack
-I think UNKLE will feature in the Soundtrack for DiRT3. We're still choosing the tracks but its looking like a good mix of tunes.
-We're putting the finishing touches on the soundtrack so I can't give away any secrets yet. It will be ace though.
-We have used the same music consultant on DiRT3 as we had on DiRT2. The mix is more eclectic though.
-We have no in race music for DiRT3 I'm afraid you'll have to play the music off your console if you want it in race.
Pacenotes
-The professional co-driver is George Gwynn. He has co-driven in some WRC events.
His expertise is invaluable.
-We have updated our system so that it adjusts the delivery of the call to the
pace at which the player is attacking the corners.
-The calls are read in a professional style.
-We are developing a system that automatically adjusts the speed of the
pace note delivery according to the speed you are driving.
-Because the stages are designed for hillclimb cars, many of which don't have codrivers,
we chose not to have calls for Trailblazer
-We will use the minimap and codriver call system. We investigated pacenote signs
but decided to focus on other features.
-You can choose between complex and simple call styles and you can choose
whether you use the male co dirver or Jen Horsey.
-Player controlled pacenotes are something we always consider when designing DiRT games. If we can get it right we'll add it.
-The complex co driver calls that you have put together for DiRT3 really are some of the best that we have ever had.
-You'll get pacenotes in Raid as they are on the Rally tracks.
-Our codrivers have some reaction speech but they are more motivational. Things like "keep pushing".
online
-We have some ideas that we are working to encourage players to be less
aggressive when competing online.
-You should be able to download and then time trial with ghosts of friends aswell
as the world best.
-You'll be able to restrict what car class is being raced. We will also have some combinations of classes. No specific cars though.
-You'll be able to choose a different car for different events in Jam Sessions.
For 5 race events you will stay in one car.
-We are updating the online anti cheat system so that it Is harsher on those that do not drive fairly and In a sportsmanlike way.
-You'll be able to race with up to 7 AI competitors in single race. Online you will be
able to race against 7 human opponents.
-The voting system will be similar to DiRT2. You'll be able to veto discipline first followed by track choice.
-There will be many options that you can alter as the host of a Jam Session. You can save your favourites too.
-We have four types of online party modes lined up for DiRT3.
-Our online races will have a number of laps suitable to the track length. Some will have 5 laps but they will be short 30s laps.
Race Disciplines
-Head2Head events are our equivalent of Super Special Stages. They are stand alone events with a multi-round knockout format.Winner of each round progresses.
They will not be part of the rally events.
-We will have the staggered start system in our rally stages so you will see other competitors as you race the stage.
-You can run the same rally event with different classes. Some events will be limited,
like historic rally with 60s' & 70s' only.
-Events like the Rally World Tour can be run in any of the nine Rally Classes.
-There will be custom events In DiRT3 but the weather choices will be limited
to what is available for the specific tracks.
-Rally Events in DiRT3 will use total stage times to determine the finishing positions.
-You'll be able to practice the stages, work out a set-up and store it ready for competitive rally. We won't have shake-downs though.
-You will enter the service area before every stage. There you can set up your car,
choose your assists and get stage info.
-Gatecrasher will not feature In DiRT3. We have a bunch of challenges and party modes that are a whole lot cooler though.
-The Rally World Tour is held across 4 locations with the best 5 stages from each location.
-The amount of non-rally races is actually pretty similar in DiRT3. We have increased the amount of rally races to compliment them.
-Will have shortcourse Landrush Trucks & Buggies. Dakar style Raid vehicles will compete on Rally tracks.
-You can create your own Rallies with different stages / weather in Split Screen and Jam Session game modes. You won't be able to in Single Race mode (offline) as this has been designed to be a quick stage or race. It's on my list of features for future titles.
-The team offers are mostly from a selection of Fictional Teams. There will also be team offers from WRC teams in the DiRT Tour.
-Single Race mode will be customisable.
-Raid will take place on rally tracks. Landrush, RallyX, Gymkhana & Head 2 Head will take place in other locations.
-Each discipline gets a World Tour. You unlock each World Tour by performing well in their relevant disciplines.
-Outbreak is a game for up to 8 players. At the start of the game a player is randomly infected. The infected player must then chase the survivors and try and spread the infection. When a survivor is hit they are infected. As the game progresses more players get infected so being a survivor becomes more challenging.
It is seriously good fun.
-The party modes are for Gymkhana cars only. The exception is Cat & Mouse. Mouse = 60s Mini. Cats = a choice of Group B car.
-The DiRT Tour takes place over 4 seasons, each season has a final. Within each season there are 4 championships. They have finals.
-Each championship has multiple events in different disciplines and challenges that aren't races but test your driving skills.
-The points allow you to qualify for the season finals. A podium in the season final unlocks the next season and a bonus prize.
-Rally and Trailblazer is based on the total time. No adding of
points like we did in DiRT2.
-No DiRT Tour customisation. You can often choose which car class
to compete in though.
-The car classes will only be applicable to their relevant disciplines.
No any car any track in Single Race.
-We are aiming for between 10-15 hours on track depending on which events you do etc.
-Gymkhana will be mostly freestyle events in DiRT3. We do have some speed/time based Gymkhana challenges in the DiRT Tour.
-RallyX events will take place in LA Coliseum Stadium, open locations like Aspen & Smelter and Monaco harbour.
-The PowerStation is a multi-level building to drive around on. It is great for hiding out when playing Party Modes. When the PowerStation is open you can jump right into it, across some platforms inside and then hit an even bigger jump out.
-Will have more Rallycross tracks in DiRT3. They are based more closely on real RallyX layouts.
-Because of the way that we set up the Gymkhana areas you'll only be able to run the Gymkhana cars there. We've 8 sanctioned competition layouts, 4 in Monaco & 4 in LA. We also have Battersea Compound which has three areas in it.
-Battersea Compound is one big Gymkhana area divided into three. There you can chill out, play Party modes or complete challenges.
-To progress through the DiRT Tour you must earn points in events & championships. You must earn Driver rep to get new team offers.
-We decided not to include the Joker lap system as it wasn't working from a gameplay perspective. Its more spectator based.
-(regarding the X-Games set up) They are set up for Landrush, Rallycross and Head 2 Head. I might drop a Gymkhana event into the X-Games though.
-Raid uses the Rally tracks, Landrush has 8 circuits and Trailblazer has 12 routes.
-Τhe Rallycross routes will have time of day and weather variations although each track will be less diverse than the Rally.
-You can drive inside the Battersea PowerStation. There are multiple levels in there too so you can get up into the roof area.
-There will be stuff like ramps, platforms, gaps and pipes in the Powerstation.
-The Raid vehicles will have staggered starts so you will see other vehicles on stage but it will be the time that counts.Raid events in the real world take place with staggered starts which is why we have made the change.
-Disciplines are as follows: Rally, Trailblazer, RallyX, Head 2 Head, Landrush & Gymkhana. Raid is a vehicle class within Rally now.
-Landrush and RallyX will both have a Grid start but we have tweaked the grid to create a better first corner experience online.
-Single player game modes will have 7 opponents competing against you in all disciplines.
-Offline challenges are Smash attack, Gymkhana Sprint, Gymkhana Attack, Drift Challenge & Speedruns.
-All Rally classes will feature in Head 2 Head events.
-Gymkhana is part of the career mode too. We have a Gymkhana academy and a bunch of Gymkhana events for you to compete in.
-All the Monaco RallyX and Head 2 Head tracks are full tarmac surfaces. The other RallyX events will be mixed surfaces. Smelter will be Tarmac, Mud and Gravel and Aspen will be snow and Ice.
-There are no teammate based races in DiRT3 so you won't be able to do coop based events in the DiRT Tour.
-The Rally World Tour is divided into locations so you can kinda do it there. (racing a country alone)
-All tracks will be available online and in Time Trial from the start.
-We have Rally World Tour events that allow you to compete in multi stage events in all the Rally vehicles classes.
-I believe there is somewhere in the region of 40 to 50 non rally events and 60-70 rally events.
-You earn points for each event you compete in and these unlock further events within a season.
Front end
-The User Interface has been redesigned for D3.It is really starting to take shape
but its too early to give anything away.
-We are bringing rally back to the forefront and we will work from there.
-We are going for a more stylised menu system in DiRT3 It is coming together really nicely and suits our more professional approach.
-We won't have any real video footage in the game. In game videos will be used for discipline tutorials (infomercials).
-We have a cool intro video lined up for DiRT3 but it is probably not going to be as over the top as the DiRT2 one.
-We are scrapping vehicle ratings for DiRT3. The Team Offers & Vehicle select screens
will show Power, Weight & Drive Type.
-You'll still be able to choose an audio name in DiRT3.
We have added some new names too.
-We will have a garage area where you'll be able to view the cars.
It is shaping up to be a very cool feature.
-We won't use a map for travelling through the DiRT Tour.In DiRT3 we have a
more stylised menu system. It is looking sweet.
-Gatecrasher will not feature In DiRT3.
-The Rally World Tour is held across 4 locations with the best 5 stages from each location.
-The amount of non-rally races is actually pretty similar in DiRT3.We have increased the amount of rally races to compliment them.
-Will have shortcourse Landrush Trucks & Buggies. Dakar style Raid vehicles will compete on Rally tracks.
-Coming back from an event and loading into the menus should be more streamlined than in DiRT2.
-You will continue to encounter slower cars on Rally & Trailblazer stages. If you beep your horn then they should yield.
-We are showing you the awesome car you are about to drive in the loading screen. So that should help with the wait. The plan is to have the car static and posed. Then have some nice sweeping camera pans showing details of the car.
-At the start of each stage you see the service area screen. The car is parked up next to it and you can see the tyres.
-The loading screens will show the cars off at their best.
-We want the service area in DiRT3 to work like you're talking to an engineer rather than tweaking the parts yourself. It isn't set up in a garage area like the D2 menus. The car is parked up on the stage and the menu appears to the side of it.
-The 3-sided geometry correlates with the fact that this is DiRT3. Style wise we 're going for somewhere between D1 & D2 menus.
Weather/Time Of Day system
-We are still working on the weather systems for DiRT3.Fog Is one of the things we are trying to include in our stages.
-All disciplines will have a selection of weather conditions and time of day.
-Our environments have seen improvements in shaders & lighting. We have weather effects such as snow & multiple times of day.
-Yes, we will have fog in DiRT3. It should help make some of our stages even more intense. Fog could never really set in over the duration of one of our stages as they are about 4 minutes long.
-It will be foggy throughout the stage. It will only occur on our snow stages. We might possibly have some dense patches if we can.
-An example of weather & lighting is as follows: Sunny, Sunset/Sunrise, Rain & Night. So,four conditions for one stage'
-(Regarding night stages visibility)-It depends on where you are. In some stages you will see silhouettes of the trees and mountains against the night sky.
-Rain will affect each surface. Mud, Gravel, Tarmac, Grass etc. will become more slippery.
-LA & Monaco are dry as well. Finland, Michigan & Smelter are where the rain is.
-We can't do Night & Snow and Night & Rain using the current tech. Maybe we can do something in future titles.
-We plan to have areas of standing water.
-Snow will be built up on the side of the track in snow banks. On the outside of corners they will often be deformable.
-We will have evening events at Monaco for Gymkhana. Monaco Head 2 Head stage will be at night with the full light rigs on the cars.
-Some (snow) banks are forgiving but others are pretty solid and can really catch you out. Using them is pretty risky.
-We've made the call to make our night stages even darker. Night rally stages are back!
-We change the weather between stages rather than during a stage. The stages aren't long enough to justify dynamic weather.
-Some of the lights in the environment will cast dynamic shadows at night but the headlight proved to be too expensive to do.
-(regarding day/night stages percentage) At a guess i would say that 25-30% are at night.
Misc
-We are adding a cool feature to our replays in DiRT 3 that allows you to upload
you favorite moments directly to YouTube.
-We have made improvements to our particle effects because of the additional weather conditions. Dust will be improved too.
-We have a system that let's some spectators stand in the stage and then run out
of the way as the car approaches. No animals though.
-We will get as many dynamic spectators as we can on the stages. We'll push the system as much as possible.
-PC requirements should be pretty similar to DiRT2. We are pushing some areas
of the tech though.
-We will prevent excessive shortcuts with Level Design wherever possible. We will look
into reset lines for certain cases.
-You can take photos from Replays on PS3.You'll also have a YouTube upload feature
that will let you upload replays.
-We'll look into the AI behavior on Rally and Trailblazer stages.
-I think we are giving a 3 second countdown at the start of rally stages.
It will come from the marshals and the start lights.
-In DiRT3 you will be able to play most game modes in Split Screen.Rally will of course
be included.
-We're working on a crowd system that will shout in the style of the country you're racing in.They'll also have air horns.
-We have a system that allows some of our spectators to stand in the road and then run for safety behind a barrier as you approach.
-The YouTube upload feature lets you select a 30 second section from your replay and upload it direct to your YouTube account.
-PS3, Xbox 360 & PC will all have the YouTube upload feature.
-We can't confirm a release date just yet but the plan is for the PC version to release at the same time as the console versions.
-System requirements should be pretty similar to DiRT2. The newer GFX cards will push our tech further than before.
-We always push the ego engine as much as we can with every game. We'll improve the vehicle & environmental damage for DiRT3.
-Yeh, the spectators will have objects that they can run and hide behind. The reset line is a last resort for licensing purposes.
-We cannot show the car hitting spectators. They will be protected by reset lines that will place the car back on track if hit.
-Retiring will always be optional.
-Snow and mud will affect your vision but it will not affect your ability to chase someone down and pass them.
-At the moment we have Ken Block, Tanner Foust, Kris Meeke and Liam Doran in DiRT3. We are yet to announce another WRC driver.
-The cars have also seen improvements in material shaders such as carbon fibre and weather effects like beading water drops.
-In DiRT Tour we use the name you put into your profile select in the window of the car. Online it uses your PSN id or Gamertag.
-We've got stock horns and some goofy ones . We're not doing the dashboard items but the avatar will hang from the mirror Xbox 360.
-On the licensed liveries the co-driver's name will be represented on the livery where appropriate.
-We are investigating a way of making a more substantial donation to the charity. It will be a way for Fans & Codies to donate.
-We are storing your last replay from any area in the game but you won't be able to create an archive of replays I'm afraid.
-(Confirmed by Helios) We're pleased to confirm that DiRT 3 will support H pattern shifting, sequential shifting, and H pattern shifting with clutch.
-We have three characters that will advise you in the menus and in the service area of the game. Ken will tell you about Gymkhana.
-You'll be able to go back to your last replay in the menus but you won't get an archive. It's something we want in the future.
-2 player split screen will be in the PC version.
-On non WRC cars you'll be able to have your name, PSN id it Gamertag in the rear side window where possible.the flag will be that of the livery and that will be based on that of specific drivers.
-(about DiRT3) 'It was described as the last in a trilogy. I'd say we'll be making more rally games in the future after DiRT3'
-We will always have some auto reset lines in our stages. Those will often be placed to prevent cheating and crashing into the crowd of spectators. We try and minimise them.We will let you crash where it is possible but we can't let you see the edge of the world I'm afraid.
-Effects include: Motion Blur, Tone Mapping, Lens Flare, Digital Distortion, Depth of Field and Dynamic Interactive Water. We also have Fully dynamic deferred lights (for night only), Tessellated deformable snow (used for deeper snow)and High Quality Cascaded. For DX11 only we have Screen Space Ambient Occlusion and Contact Hardening Shadows Shadows. For PC our 3D support is being provided by DDD through the latest AMD Graphics cards... I think that covers it all.
-You can upload numerous 30 second clips to YouTube from one single replay.
-We have worked on a helicopter style camera in our replays. It only works in certain locations though.
-(regarding nicknames)-Some of the drivers names are in and others have not been included. We have got Colin in there this time though.
-You'll have control over the visual effects in the PC version but there won't be the option on the consoles.
-We have a helmet camera. We have worked on how it reacts to the cars movement during cornering and over bumps & jumps.
-If you're on Xbox360 you be able to hang your avatar from the rear view mirror. These rest of the dashboard stuff is not in.
-We have birds & animals, like hares, in our particle system. They are very simple models so glowing eyes won't be feasible.
-Spectators at a start would get in trouble with the marshals if they're in the track there. We'll put them in where possible though. It's actually more about putting the crowds in places that make sense and areas where they can get out of the way to safety. We aim to push the tech as far as we can for DiRT3, using the Group B videos as reference but its unlikely to get all the way.
-There have been improvements to the lighting and particles which really make the locations and tracks come alive.
-Our leaderboards are per vehicle class. So Group B, Raid etc. will have their own leaderboard for each Rally Stage.
-We have a variety of track based, car based and time based anti cheating measures that we are working on for DiRT3.
-The last replay will be stored in My DiRT automatically so you can watch it offline after an online race.
-Kris Meeke helps us with car setup, co driver calls and as a consultant to let us know which areas we need to improve on.
-We have adjusted the head cam position to give you a better view out of the car. We've also improved the interior textures.
-We are eliminating each instant of wall riding when we find it. It is something we are very conscious of.
-There will be a significant drop in visibility when the light rig falls off the front of the car.
-We have a benchmark mode that allows PC users to tweak their settings and assess their PC's performance.
-Split Screen will be local only. We are looking at On-line Split Screen for future titles.
-If the car is dusty / muddy and it drives through water , the water will clean the car.
