Passage d'XFree 3.3.6 à XFree 4.2.1 - Logiciels - Linux et OS Alternatifs

Venons en aux choses qui fachent:
 
 Ca fait deux (voir 3) semaines que j'essaye de passer de
 XFree 3.3.6 à XFree 4.2.0 . Ca a abouti à 3 réinstall et un
 paquet de mauvais conseils. Le but est de pouvoir faire    
 fonctionner un jour les drivers NVidia pour admirer  
 l'accélération graphique d'une GeForce4 Ti4400.
 
 J'ai une Mandrake 8.2, cette sympathique et maudite distrib  
 qui possederai les packages mais qui ne les installe pas.
 
 C'est dommage, j'utilise Linux depuis 1 mois à temps plein
 et malgré la communauté => ou la la c pas bien windows,
 Linux c mieux <= mais ne prenne pas le temps d'aider les
 novices (qui retournent chez Micro$oft). Par consequent, la  
 promotion du pingoin me parait assez compromise.

Je passe en console (telinit 3).
Je cherche tous les packages XFree par la commande rpm -qa grep XFree86.
Je desintalle tous les packages en 3.3.6 et je reinstalle tous les packages en 4.2.0:
Les fonts 100 dpi 4.2.0
Les fonts 75 dpi 4.2.0
Xfree 4.2.0
Les libs 4.2.0
xf86cfg 4.2.0
xfs 4.2.0
 
Une fois que c'est fini, exit du loggin root, startx et beurk erreur de la mort que je suis tellement bete que j'ai pas notée.
 
Est ce que c'est les bons packages? Est ce que j'en ai oublié? Est-ce qu'il faut modifier un fichier de conf avec l'install des packages?
 
Si ca suffit pas, je repourri mon systeme, note les erreurs, et je vous les envoie, ok?

avec MDK, tu as meilleur temps d'utiliser urpmi et de mettre à jour plutôt que d'enlever les anciens paquetages.

encore mieux, tu ouvres le MDK control center, tu vas dans la section xfree et tu demandes le changement de serveur X.

Youpi, merci les amis!
 
Pour ceux qui veulent connaitre le happy end pour mandrake 8.2:
- Aller dans le Mandrake Control Center.
- Sectionner Matériel
- Sélectionner affichage
- Choisir la carte unlisted
- Choisir le serveur xserveur
- Choisir enfin le driver nv (pour Nvidia bien entendu).
et hop, il demande le cd et installe comme un grand, magique!
 
Il ne reste plus qu'à installer les driver NVidia, mais ca, c'est pipi de chat (en théorie)

J'ai pas encore commencé à installer le driver. J'ai simplement voulu tester si XFree 4.2.0 fonctionnait correctement avant.
 
Autrement, fallait faire qqch dans XFConfig-4 si on change de serveur x?

Yo,
 
On a cherché avec Leirn toute la soirée et on donne notre langue au chat.
 
Effectivement, dans le device de la section screen, il n'y a rien. Mais lorsque l'on y met, Generic VGA, on obtient:
 
Fatal server error:
AddScreen/Screen Init failed for driver 0.

 
et lorsque l'on y met Geforce4 et dans identifier de Graphic section Geforce4 aussi, on obtient:
 
Fatal server error:
No Screen Found

Salut, je viens de reinstaller tous les packages selon la méthode lea-linux. Toujours le meme résultat. Je vois vraiment pas.
