startx => no screens found

Lorsque je lance X avec la commande startx j'ai le message d'erreur fatal server error no screens found ... Etrangement ça "fct" avec la commande "xf86cfg" avec une très basse résolution (du 512x qqch je pense) et très peu de couleur (256) et je n'ai pas la souris ! A la fin du fichier log on vois qu'il essaie toute une série de résolution. Voilà ce que je peux lire :

- 640x350 et 640x400: bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan
- 720x400 à 1400x1050 : insufficient memory for mode
- mode pool is empty, no valid mode found
- (EE) screen(s) found but none have a usable config
- fatal server error : no screens found

Ma carte graphique et une TGUI 9440 AGI 1024kb 56.48Mhz (assez veille) et mon écran est un LG (hf:30~70kHz et vf:50~160kHz)

J'utilise le driver "trident" et j'ai trouvé ma carte graphique ds la liste lors de la config avec xf86config

J'ai essayé la commande

"dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86"

comme tu le suggerais ds un msg du thread "[important] --== MESSAGE POUR LES DEBUTANTS ==--" mais l'erreur persiste tjours ...

Il y a qqch que je ne comprend pas ... le fichier de config qui est vraiment utiliser c'est le /etc/X11/xf86config-4 ou le /etc/X11/xf86config ?

'/etc/X11/XF86Config' sert à XFree86 version 3.x

'/etc/X11/XF86Config-4' pour la version 4.x

À priori, tu te sers de XFree4.1.

T'es sûr d'avoir les bons paramètres pour le rafraichissement de l'écran?
Baisse de 160kHz à 110.

Essaie d'autres drivers (VESA).

PS: Pardon, je n'avais pas vu que ta carte n'était pas une nVIDIA!!!

ben oui ce sont les bon paramètres, j'ai acheté mon écran hier et c'est ce qui est noté sur la boite et ds le manuel ...

donc d'après toi ca viens de l'écran ??? pourtant j'ai essayé avec un autre écran et ca fait exactement la meme erreur ...

elle est supportée par XFree.

Donc, garde le driver Trident.

Le problème a l'air de venir de la résolution de l'écran.

Il faudrait que tu donnes le log complet pour mieux voir les erreurs.

arff.. entre tps g essayé le driver vesa et maintenant tout se bloque... ctrl+alt+back ne fait rien ... pas possible d'aller dans un autre terminal ... cment faire pour remettre trident ??? ou plutot pour avoir une console ... puis j'essaierai de mettre tout le log ! un gd merci !

Ben... si ta machine est vraiment plantée, il y a un moyen pour tout défaire avant de rebooter (je ne me souviens plus des manipulations) ou alors, t'appuie directement sur RESET

Si tu as Lilo pour démarrer:

tape linux 1 au démarrage, tu démarreras avec INIT1, donc sans X.

g réussi a me débrouiller avec CTRL-C
maintenant g baissé à 110 cme tu m'as dis et j'ai aussi décoché la résolution 1024 et 640 en ne laissant que 800 ... et ca se lance !!
je vois le ptr de la souris mais encore une fois ca bloque le systeme !!!! arff j'en ai marre, je vais essayer de me debrouiller pour le log ... tu peux me rappeler ou se trouve le fichier ? merci

J'ai eu la même erreur sous Debian, et a chaque fois c'était l'option "Framebuffer" que j'avais activé par erreur lors de la configuration...

bon ben ca change rien !! arff!!!
dc voilà au stade actuel je me retrouve avec une souris qui ne fct pas et une image qui reste bloquée ... en fait c carément planté car je ne sais plus accéder aux autres terminaux ni redémarer le serveur X ... Au fait quelqu'un peux me dire cment cela se fait - il que pour "xf86cfg" ca fct .. ? Ce n'est pas possible d'utiliser son fichier de config ? Merci

Je pense que ca venait de la souris, au lieu de choisir /dev/mouse, j'ai pris /dev/ttyS0 et PAF tout fct !!!

SAUF que c'est en 640 x 680 et j'aimerai etre en 800 x 600 ... je suppose que ca dois etre tt simple mais je ne vois pas ds le fichier de config ...

Avec un peu de chance, il suffit d'ajouter la résolution souhaitée dans la définition du moniteur, dans le fichier /etc/x11/xf86config-4

Avec moins de chance, il faut ajouter un modeline correspondant à la résolution et aux fréquences souhaitées...

ce que j'aimerai c'est 1024 en 16bits ou alors si ce n'est pas possible 800 en 16 bits ...
j'ai essayé de changer le fichier de config /etc/X11/XF86config-4 comme cela :

DefaultDepth 24

et pour la subsection display avec le depth à 24 j'ai mis 1024 en première position puis 800 en 2e et enfin 640 en dernière position.

qd je redemare le serveur X je reste en 640 !! tjours les meme erreurs ds le fichier log (voir plus haut)

et puis qd je me met en depth 8 et ben ca marche je suis en 1024 mais ca décone grave ... par exemple lorsque je deplace une fenetre les couleurs deviennent rouge et vertes uniquement !

je vais essayer le modeline cme tu me dis ... je vais dabord chercher cment ca fct puis je te dis ce qu'il se passe ...

ds la section screen et ca ne change rien il me semble

moi j'ai exactement le même pb mais avec une carte nvidia, j'ai updaté le kernel, passé du 2.4.19 au 2.4.20 et au redémarrage le serveur x ne démarre plus.

T'avais installé les drivers nVIDIA à la méthode nVIDIA, donc lorsque tu remets à jour le noyau, il faut ensuite réinstaller le module nVIDIA.

PS: il y a une méthode Debian plus propre.
